Astro- (Japanese satellites)



The prelaunch designation of a series of Japanese astronomical satellites built by ISAS (Institute of Space and Astronautical Sciences) to carry out observations of cosmic sources at X-ray and other wavelengths. This series has included Astro-A (Hinotori), Astro-B (Tenma), Astro-C (Ginga), and Astro-D (ASCA). Astro-E suffered a launch failure. Astro-F, after many delays was launched on Feb. 20, 2006.
