ammonium perchlorate (NH4ClO4)
A white crystalline solid, the salt of ammonia
and perchloric acid (HClO4). Ammonium perchlorate is the oxidizer
used in most composite rocket motors, including those of the Space
Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters. It is typically used in conjunction with
aluminum powder (the fuel) and polybutediene
rubber (the binder holding the mixture together). Related
