Barnard, Christiaan Neethling (1922–2001)



Christiaan Barnard
South African surgeon who was the first to perform a human heart transplant (December 3, 1967). In 1974 Barnard was the first to implant a second heart in a patient and to link the circulations of the two hearts so that they worked together as one.
