Blackwell, Elizabeth (1821–1910)



Elizabeth Blackwell
English-born American physician. In 1847 she began to study medicine at the Geneva Medical College in New York. She graduated in 1849, becoming the first female doctor in the United States. She established the New York Infirmary (1857), which combined health services and medical training.
