carving mallet
A mallet used for striking chisels and other tools when carving. The design of a traditional carver's mallet allows the craftsman to strike the chisel from any angle without worrying about the position of the mallet. Carving mallets are made from a hard wood such as maple. "Soft blow" carving mallets have a head made of an impact-absorbing substance such as urethane. This delivers a solid blow to the chisel while minimizing vibration and damage to chisel handles.
