A health discipline based on a theory that disease results from misalignment of the vertebrae. Manipulation, massage, and dietary and general advice are the principal methods used. Chiropractic was founded by Daniel D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa, in 1895 and has a substantial following in the United States.
