chloride




A salt of hydrochloric acid or some organic compounds containing chlorine, especially those with the negative ion Cl-. The best known example is common table salt, sodium chloride (NaCl). Most chlorides are soluble in water, except mercury (I) (mercurous) and silver chlorides.
