chloroquine



A synthetic, antimalarial drug derived from quinine , acting on the red-cell phase of the parasite. Chloroquine is probably the most widely used drug for the prevention and treatment of malaria, and is effective against all varieties of malarial parasite. It is also sometimes used with hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and some skin conditions. It can have marked side-effects, such as blurred vision.
