cloning
- Of an organism: a technique for making an exact genetic copy of an
organism.
- Of a gene: copying the exact DNA
sequence of a gene. Usually, "cloning a gene" refers to copying the
DNA sequence from an organism's entire genome
into a smaller, more accessible piece of DNA, such as a plasmid.
