  1. In software engineering, the process of expressing a computer program in a programming language.
  2. The transforming of logic and data from design specifications (design descriptions) into a programming language.
Coding standards are written procedures describing coding (programming) style conventions specifying rules governing the use of individual constructs provided by the programming language, and naming, formatting, and documentation requirements which prevent programming errors, control complexity and promote understandability of the source code.
