compact galaxy
A galaxy with an apparent diameter of 2 to 5 arc-seconds and a high surface brightness that appears only barely larger than a star-like point on a sky survey photograph. A compact galaxy is similar to an N galaxy but without any sign of a disk or a nebulous background.
