Covellite is a mineral form of copper sulfide (CuS). It occurs with other copper minerals and is mined as an ore. It forms hexagonal, platy crystals, which have a deep indigo blue color, often tinged with purple. It cleaves into thin, flexible plates. Hardness 1.5–2.0, relative density 4.7.
