demography

A branch of sociology, the study of the distribution, composition, and internal structure of human populations. It draws on many disciplines (e.g., genetics, psychology, economics, geography), its tools being essentially those of statistics: the sample and the census whose results are statistically analyzed. The prime concerns of demography are birth rate, emigration, and immigration.
