flash pointThe lowest temperature at which the vapor above a volatile liquid forms a combustible mixture with the oxygen in the air. At the flash point the temperature is too low for sustained combustion to occur, but when a pilot flame is introduced to the mixture a brief flash occurs. Compare with fire point.
