fulminate




An explosive, a salt of fulminic acid (HONC), especially fulminate of mercury (Hg(ONC)2), which is formed by the action of nitric acid on mercury metal in the presence of alcohol. It is a highly unstable compound used in explosive detonators and blasting caps.
