fumaric acid



A strong organic dibasic acid, also known as trans-butenedioic acid, having the chemical formula H2C4H2O4. It occurs in many plants, especially in Corydalis and Fumitory, and plays an important role in the citric acid cycle. It is isomeric with malic acid.
