fuze



A primary explosive charge set off by an electrical, chemical, or mechanical means which detonates the main charge of an explosion device. Commonly use fuzes operate on the principle of the firecracker fuze. Proximity fuses may be set in a moving projctile, to function when it is a certain distance from the target.
