kampyle of Eudoxus

kampyle of Eudoxus

The kampyle of Eudoxus is an hour-glass-shaped curve that was first studied by Eudoxus in an attempt to solve the classical problem of duplicating the cube. It is described by the Cartesian equation

   a2x4 = b4(x2 + y2)

It is also the radial curve of the catenary.
