kidney machine

Equipment used to perform hemodialysis (removing toxic wastes from the blood) in kidney failure. Plastic tubing is used to pipe blood from the body into the machine, where waste-products are filtered out by the technique of dialysis. Usually two or three sessions are required a week, each lasting about four hours. Today many more patients benefit from the newer technique of peritoneal dialysis, in which fluids are passed through the peritoneal cavity to reduce blood urea.
