An ultrabasic igneous rock, often altered and fragmented, which contains diamonds formed in situ. Kimberlite consists of olivine with mica, serpentine, calcite, and other minerals. Its chief occurrences is as diamond-bearing pipes and dikes at Kimberley, South Africa.
