The Lunar Society of Birmingham was the most illustrious of the British provincial scientific societies of the late 18th century. Its members included the industrialists Matthew Boulton and Josiah Wedgwood, the physician Erasmus Darwin, and the chemist and theologian Joseph Priestley.
