lobe



A bright, diffuse region of radio emission on one or both sides of the nucleus of a radio galaxy or other active galaxy, and lying outside the visible confines of the galaxy. A lobe is believed to contain matter ejected from the nucleus and carried into intergalactic space along a jet.
