lode

An ore formation consisting of a closely spaced series of veins, usually in stratified layers. Often several different minerals occur along the same lode. Lodes were probably formed as a result of liquids or gases, heated by volcanic activity, forcing their way through existing rocks, and then cooling and solidifying.
