A trademark name of the synthetic organic compound polymethyl methacryalate; it is also known as Perspex and Plexiglass. Lucite is an extremely tough, lightweight, transparent thermoplastic (see plastic) used for auto and aircraft windshields, contact lenses, watch glasses, etc.
