Payley, William (1743–1805)
English theologian and utilitarian philosopher whose Principles of Moral and Political Philosophy (1785); A View of the Evidence of Christianity (1794, and Natural Theology (1802) featured largely in early 19th-century liberal education on both shores of the Atlantic.
