paraldehyde (ethanal trimer, C6H12O3)




A colorless liquid formed by the polymerization of ethanol (acetaldehyde) by the action of sulfuric acid. It regenerates ethanol on heating with dilute acids. It has a pleasant odor but disagreeable taste, and is used mainly as a sedative.
