Physical chemistry is a major branch of chemistry, in which the theories and methods of physics are applied to chemical systems. Physical chemistry underlies all the other branches of chemistry and includes theoretical chemistry. Its main divisions are the study of molecular structure; colloids; electrochemistry; chemical equilibrium; gas laws; chemical kinetics; relative molecular mass determination; photochemistry; solution; spectroscopy, and chemical thermodynamics.
