The structure of procaine. The synthetic molecule is structurally much simpler than cocaine
Prototype local anesthetic agent related to cocaine; used now mainly for surface anesthesia. Its derivative procainamide is used in suppression of heart arrhythmias. The hydrochloride of procaine is known as novocaine.
