Roque de los Muchachos Observatory (ORM) is an observatory located on La Palma in the Canary Islands, at an altitude of 2,400 meters. Founded in 1979, it is owned and operated by the Instituto de Astrofiscia de Canarias. ORM is the site of a number of telescopes belonging to various nations, including the 4.2-meter William Herschel Telescope.

 

The telescopes shown in the photo are, from left to right, the Carlsberg Meridian Telescope, the 4.2-meter William Herschel Telescope, the Dutch Open Telescope, the Swedish Solar Tower, the 2.5-meter Isaac Newton Telescope, and the 1.0-meter Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope.
