The length of time, under specified conditions, that a battery can be stored so that it keeps its guaranteed capacity.

Typical shelf life of some primary cells:
  • Zinc carbon (Leclanché) 2 to 3 years
  • Alkaline 5 years
  • Lithium 10 years or more
