slinky ground loop A type of horizontal, closed-loop geothermal heat pump system in which the fluid-filled plastic heat exchanger pipes are coiled like a Slinky to allow more pipe in a shorter trench. This type of installation cuts down on installation costs and makes horizontal installation possible in areas it would not be with conventional horizontal applications.
