Schiff, Steven (1947–1998)

U.S. Congressman for New Mexico who represented the Roswell area. Schiff complained that the government had fueled speculation about the Roswell Incident by keeping files of the affair secret. At his request, the U.S. Air Force carried out an investigation and publicly reported its findings in 1994 (see Roswell Incident, U.S.A.F. Report). Still concerned that the Air Force might be withholding confidential files, Schiff asked for an independent investigation into the matter by the General Accounting Office. The results of this appeared the following year (see Roswell Incident, GAO Report).
