    Schopf, J. William

    Professor of paleobiology in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, the Molecular Biology Institute, and the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) at the University of California, Los Angeles. Schopf is also director of IGPP's Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life. His current research projects include studies of the evolution of primitive Precambrian organisms, organic geochemistry of ancient sediments, evolutionary biology; atmospheric evolution, and paleobotany. He is a former member of the Space Science Board (now the Space Studies Board, 1983-86), and was a member of the Task Group on Issues on Sample Return.
