Shapley-Ames Catalogue A catalogue of 1,246 bright galaxies, down to magnitude 13.2, published by Harlow Shapley and Adelaide Ames in 1932. It became the standard listing of bright galaxies and played a major role in studies of galaxies in the local region. A revised version was published by Allan Sandage and G. A. Tammann in 1981.
