Submillimeter Array An array of (initially) eight movable reflectors, each 6 meters in diameter, that is being set up near the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. It will see cosmic sources at high resolution at submillimeter wavelengths (see submillimeter astronomy). The Array is a being constructed by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics of Taiwan's Academia Sinica.
