saccharide




An organic compound based on sugar molecules. Monosaccharides include glucose and fructose, found in fruit and honey. Two sugar molecules join together to make disaccharides, such as lactose (milk sugar) or sucrose (cane sugar). Polysaccharides have more than two sugar molecules. See also carbohydrate.
