Sunburn is a burning effect on the skin following prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the Sun, common in travelers from temperate zones to hot climates. First-degree burns may occur but usually only a delayed erythema is seen with extreme skin sensitivity. Systemic disturbance occurs in extreme cases. Fair-skinned persons are most susceptible.
