Wind turbine bridge

Proposed wind turbine viaduct called "Solar Wind", Southern Italy.

A wind turbine bridge is a bridge the space under which is utilized to support an array of wind turbines. One such scheme, called Solar Wind has already been proposed in Italy. Conceived by the design team of Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino, and Luisa Saracino, Solar Wind would repurpose a viaduct near Calabria to support 26 wind turbines capable of generating 36 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The roadway across the bridge would be densely lined with solar cells coated in clear plastic, producing another 11.2 million kilowatt-hours, so that the structure in total would be able to supply the power needs of about 15,000 homes. Similar to New York's Highline, but on a much bigger scale, the entire viaduct itself would be turned into a promenade and park. Drivers would be to pull over to take in the magnificent coastal views or buy frsh produce grown in greenhouses installed along the bridge.
