will o' the wisp




Also called Jack O'Lantern or Ignis Fatuus (Latin: foolish fire), light seen at night over marshes caused by spontaneous combustion of methane produced by putrefying matter. Luring travelers into danger, it was popularly regarded as a wandering damned spirit bearing its own hell-fire.
