hemiola

A hemiola: three half notes that span over the time of two full bars. This could also be thought of as 3:2 (three over two), an example of a polyrhythm.

In classical music theory, mediant is a term that refers either to the third degree of the diatonic scale, or to any triad (or seventh chord) constructed on that root.
