rondo

Rondo is an instrumental form in which the first section (A), usually in the tonic key, comes back between contrasting sections. There are two basic patterns of a rondo: A B A C A and A B A C A B A. Rondos were popular in the late 18th to early 19th centuries, and often form the last movement of sonatas, concertos, string quartets, and classical symphonies.
