A blocking diode is a diode, one application of which is to restrict or block reverse current from flowing backward through a solar module. Alternatively, a blocking diode may be connected in series to a photovoltaic string; it protects its modules from a reverse power flow and, thus, against the risk of thermal destruction of solar cells.
