framing chisel
A large chisel with a long, heavy blade, 1½ to 4½ inches wide, which is strong enough to be struck with a mallet. It is typically used for work in rough carpentry such as cutting tenons to fit motises. A framing chisel is usually made like a firmer chisel, in other words with a socket that fits into the blade.
