Ambracia

Ambracia was a town in ancient Epirus (northwest Greece), on the river Arachthus, north of the Ambracian Gulf. Colonized by the Corinthians about 630 BC, it soon attained great wealth and importance. Pyrrhus, king of Epirus, made it his residence. On its site stands the modern town of Arta.
