acroteria
  1. Ornaments, usually made of marble or terra cotta, found on top of the pediments of Greek temples. The acroteria of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia were made of bronze. Acroterion means summit or extremity.


  2. The blocks or pedestals used to support such ornaments.
