Cleon (d.422 BC)
Athenian politician. In 429 BC, after the death of Pericles, he spurned Sparta's peace proposals and successfully continued the Peloponnesian War. An unprincipled demagogue and inconsistent soldier, he was killed in action against the Spartans at Amphipolis.
