karyatid

A tiptoeing dancer in early Greek times who performed at the feast for Artemis Karyatis and was the model for a kind of pillar. In the ancient feasts at Karyai she carried flower baskets on her head. The female figure used as an architectural column is called a karyatid. The word is also spelled "caryatid."
