Octavia
The sister of the Roman emperor Augustus and wife of Mark Anthony. On the
death of her first husband, Marcellus, she consented in 40 BC
to marry Anthony, to secure the reconciliation between him and her brother;
but in a few years Anthony abandoned her for Cleopatra. In 32 BC
war, long inevitable, broke out between Anthony and Octavion. The former
crowned his insults by sending Octavia a bill of divorcement. However, this
did not deter her, after her husband's death, from raising not only her
own children by Anthony, but also those of Cleopatra. She died in 11 BC.
