Tantalus

Tantalus was a son of Zeus and the father of Niobe. For having divulged the divine counsels he was afflicted in the lower world with an insatiable thirst, and had to stand up to the chin in a lake, the waters of which receded whenever he tried to take a drink; clusters of fruit hung over his head, which eluded his grasp whenever he made an effort to reach them.
