seventh

A seventh is the interval between two pitches that are seven degrees of the diatonic scale apart: C-b, E-d, A-g, etc. A major seventh consists of six whole steps, and a half step (C-B), a minor seventh consists of six whole steps (C-B♭).

The seventh is generally regarded as fourth in importance after the root, fifth, and third.
